Broughty Ferry beach has won a top award for the 13th time.

The seafront was given a Resort Seaside Award from environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful at their annual awards for its pristine condition.

Kevin Cordell, depute convener of Dundee City Council’s neighbourhood services committee, was delighted by the latest win.

He said: “This is a fantastic honour and accolade for Broughty Ferry beach.

“It is testament to the work carried out by the council and locals alike to keep the beach in top condition.

“This is an excellent result and makes all the hard work by everyone who regularly comes along to the beach to pick up debris and litter very worthwhile.”

Committee convener John Alexander said that keeping the high standard at the beach was down to those who helped out.

He said: “To receive the award 13 times is fantastic.

“Everyone who keeps the beach in such amazing shape should be very happy.”

The city council and local volunteers are involved in maintaining high standards for residents and visitors.

Broughty Ferry beach has held the Resort Seaside Award since 2003.

Malcolm Roughead, chief executive of VisitScotland, said: “We are delighted to see so many beaches recognised by these awards, which reflect the high quality experience visitors can expect when taking a trip to the seaside – whether it be to soak up the summer sun or blow away the winter blues.

Five beaches in Angus – Arbroath, Carnoustie, Easthaven, Monifiteth and Montrose – also scooped an award for facility provision.
