A young girl involved in a serious crash on the outskirts of Dundee is out of hospital and back home with her family.

Abdul Salam, 40, known by family and friends as Abi, and his five-year-old daughter Aleena were trapped in the smash at Powrie Brae at around 3.15pm on Monday.

However, while Aleena was allowed home from hospital with only bruising, Abdul remains still in a critical condition at Ninewells.

Abdul’s wife Adeela, 28, said she thanked God her daughter was back home, but remains very worried about her husband.

She said: “He is still sedated but doctors have told us that while he is still in a critical condition, he is now at least stable.

“They are monitoring him every couple of hours but still don’t know when they will be able to bring him out of sedation.

“I am praying for a miracle and that he comes home to us very soon.”

Adeela said that her daughter, who had her fifth birthday in hospital on Wednesday, had spoken about the accident.

She said: “Aleena has told me that the car crashed and that she remembers hearing sirens.

“She has also said that she knew there were ambulances. Obviously she is too young to understand completely what happened but she knows they crashed.”

Firefighters took more than an hour to free Abdul and Aleena after their car became trapped underneath a lorry.

Adeela said her daughter had been sitting strapped into the back seat of the car. Her injuries were mostly bruising across her neck and legs from the seatbelt.

She added they hope to properly celebrate Aleena’s birthday when Abi gets out of hospital.
