Young dancers from across Scotland took the stage by storm when they performed in Dundee.

In scenes echoing ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent, dance troop after dance troop in weird and wonderful costume wowed the audience in the city’s Caird Hall.

After months of preparation and rehearsal teams from 11 secondary schools fought it out in the Scottish final of the 2016 Be Your Best Rock Challenge.

Among the competing schools were Forfar Academy, Arbroath Academy and Kinross High School.

They secured their places in the final during the two-day Dundee heat in March.

Forfar Academy’s lead girl Nicole Brand, 17, took part in the performing arts contest for her sixth and final time and said: “It’s an amazing experience. It’s nerve-racking, but it’s so enjoyable.

“It’s taken just under a year of rehearsals twice a week or three times for some and before that there were the auditions.

“It is very intense but whether you win or lose the excitement stays with you for ages afterwards.”

For each eight minute performance, pupils were challenged to showcase skills including dance, drama and design.

The other schools competing last night were Alness Academy, Dingwall Academy, Fraserburgh Academy, Invergordon Academy, Millburn Academy, Mintlaw Academy, Thurso High School and Turriff Academy.
