Dundee woman’s plus size clothing campaign

A Dundee woman has launched a campaign to encourage more department stores to offer clothes for plus size females.

Jody Mckenzie took matters into her own hands after becoming frustrated at the lack of high street shops offering size 16 clothes and above.

Rather than sit idly and complain, Jody has launched an online petition in an attempt to drum up support for her cause.

Though the petition has not gone viral as of yet, Jody hopes her efforts result in more stores stocking clothes for plus size women.

She said: “There are currently various cities that do not have a plus size shop to cater for all shapes and sizes, including Dundee.

“We have a few small racks of limited stock in plus size clothes in a New Look outlet, but that doesn’t always stock the correct sizes and is difficult to find something suitable and comfortable.

“It is frustrating because since Evans closed there’s nowhere to really go.”

Jody feels having more stores offer plus sized clothing would not only make it easier for local women to find clothes, but also allow them to feel better about themselves.

Her petition will eventually be sent to successful online outlet Yours Clothing, who cater for plus size women.

Jody said: “Myself and many others are all behind having a plus sized outlet here in Dundee.

“It would just make life easier for the communities in Dundee, Angus and surrounding areas.

“Having a big outlet like Yours Clothing would not only be beneficial to myself, family and friends but most of the public would have a choice to feel equal, to be able to go in town and find something like any non plus sized person.

“It means they could do so without having to feel uncomfortable or spend hours not being able to get a single thing because most shops don’t stock the correct sizes.

“It’s hard enough being overweight without struggling to find something to wear.”

A spokeswoman for Yours Clothing confirmed the organisation was encouraged by Jody’s efforts and revealed they would consider opening an outlet in Dundee in the future.
