A young man who subjected a stranger to a brutal 30 minute midnight assault in his own home has been jailed for two years and eight months.
Ryan Black eventually made-off with £20 in loose change and a £20 watch, leaving his victim bleeding on the floor.
The 22-year-old forced his way into David Donald’s flat in Dundee’s Lorimer Street on February 16.
He kicked and punched him to the ground, all the while demanding money from him, leaving Mr Donald severely injured.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Mr Donald had been sleeping when he was woken by the sound of his letterbox being rattled.
He found the accused and another man outside in the hallway and asked what they were doing, whereupon Black forced his way into the property.
Depute Fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court: “The accused began to repeatedly punch and kick the complainer on the head and body.
“As the assault moved into the living room, Mr Donald was knocked to the ground.
“He was kicked repeatedly on the head, causing him to bleed heavily from the side of his face.”
It was then that the assault temporarily ended, with Black moving towards the door as his victim, still on the ground and bleeding, breathed a sigh of relief.
Horrifyingly, the attack was not at an end, as Black returned moments later to resume kicking and punching him to the head and body.
Mr Donald was subsequently taken to Ninewells Hospital where he was given stitches for a severe wound below his left eye.
Hid nose had also been broken and he suffered widespread bruising.
Police officers later traced Black at his home and found Mr Donald’s blood on a hoodie, together with trainers.
The pattern on their soles matched the imprint of a foot on Mr Donald’s door, which had been kicked open.
Black, of Brougham Gardens, admitted assaulting Mr Donald to his severe injury and robbing him.
Sheriff Tom Hughes told him he was guilty of a “very serious” offence and that custody was an inevitability.
