A Dundee nursery shut its doors hours after The Courier revealed its owner was under investigation for potential breaches of the Data Protection Act.

Green Shoots nursery on Brunel Road, Wester Gourdie, closed for good at 6pm on Thursday.

Staff and parents were informed about the closure at the beginning of this week, after a meeting with owner and manager Angela McGoldrick.

It is understood the nursery could no longer afford to keep running.

The Courier earlier revealed that investigations were being carried out after a large number of confidential files containing information about staff and children were discovered at the former Technotots nursery, also owned by Mrs McGoldrick.

The Technotots site is adjacent to Green Shoots and has been empty since it closed in 2014.

The Information Commissioner’s Office confirmed it is carrying out an investigation into a potential breach of the Data Protection Act.

In a statement released on Thursday, Mrs McGoldrick said: “The container that the documents have been found in had been made secure and housed
only old garden toys and materials – no documentation was held within it.

“Some historic documentation was held within the filing room of the secure main building, which was the former nursery.

“This event is an event in a perpetual series of events and harassment that I have endured over the past two to three years, which has been maliciously designed to damage and discredit the reputation of myself and my business.

“I have met with the Care Inspectorate and the Information Commissioner’s Office relating to this event and both these bodies are satisfied with my account of events.

“Police have been informed and CCTV footage is currently being viewed in order to further the investigation into the disclosure of these confidential records.”

A spokesman for the Information Commissioner’s Office said: “Our inquiries are still ongoing.

“The Information Commissioner’s Office cannot comment further on the details of this case at this time.”
