The commercial director of Dundee FC during one of the most tumultuous times in the club’s history has died at the age of 58.
Jim Connor, who lived in Broughty Ferry, was commercial director at the Dens Park club from 1997 to 2003, a period which saw the club bring superstars Claudio Caniggia and Fabrizio Ravanelli to Tayside.
Mr Connor joined the club when Peter and Jimmy Marr took over Dundee FC from Ron Dixon in 1997.
In 2002Â they replaced then manager Jocky Scott with Ivano Bonetti and his brother Dario, who was appointed assistant manager.
Mr Connor left Dundee a short time after the club went into administration in 2003.
Born in Dundee and raised in Longforgan, he attended Harris Academy.
He had a keen interest in sport throughout his life and coached and managed a number of amateur and works team despite only playing to what he admitted was a “poor standard”.
His first job was in sports retail and, although closely associated with Dundee FC, he also worked as commercial manager for Dundee United for three years.
Mr Connor also ran his own commercial marketing business before joining Dundee in 1997.
A spokesman for Dundee FC said: “All at Dundee Football Club were saddened today to hear of the death of former Commercial Director Jim Connor.
“Jim held the role at Dens for six years between 1997 and 2003. The thoughts of everyone at Dens are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
