The oldest junior football club in Scotland are appealing to the people of Dundee to help them raise funds for new facilities.

East Craigie JFC are launching a crowd funding campaign to help pay for new club facilities.

The club, who have played at Craigie Park since 1932, have had to use temporary changing facilities since the end of last year after flooding wrought havoc at the park.

One of the club rooms was condemned after being severely damaged by bad weather, and the team have been using portacabins provided by the council since then.

The “Shipbuilders” will start their fundraising campaign on Friday September 23 at a special event afternoon at Craigie Park.

Pledgers will be able to join players and club members and learn more about some of the “unique rewards” which will be on offer- including sponsorship opportunities.

Ade Shearer, president of East Craigie JFC, said: “We have been using the Portakabins and patching things up as best as we can, but it is no longer sustainable.

“East Craigie Junior Football Club really do now need to raise funds for new buildings.

“We are now aiming to become a community club, so will be offering other interested parties the chance to become involved at Craigie Park.

“We need help from the community, and in return we would like to offer our community something back.

“Not having the correct facilities over the past while has been a distraction for us all.

“We would really like to have been able to concentrate on being a successful team, and this has been difficult with the locker rooms and our other facilities being in need of repair.

“If we get the facilities in place, we will be able to attract other community groups to the park.

“East Craigie JFC wants to be a club for as long as possible, we were formed in 1880 and are the oldest junior football club in Scotland.

“Our appeal launches on Friday Septemeber 23 and we are all looking forward to it. We want to reach out to the people of Dundee and ask them to help as much as they can.”
