Police are appealing for witnesses after a gang of youths followed then assaulted two men in Dundee.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm on Monday night in Hilltown Park, Caldrum Street and police – as yet – are unsure of the motives behind the attack.

There are believed to have been seven attackers aged between 14 and 17 all of whom were wearing hooded tops and jogging bottoms.

They followed the victims all the way from Murraygate, before launching the unprovoked attack.

Sergeant Alex Munro, Community Investigation Unit said: “It is understood that the group of young boys were seen in Murraygate, Dundee earlier in the evening and that they followed their victims to Hilltown Park, where they carried out the assault.

“This was an unprovoked attack and the violent group behaviour demonstrated in this assault could have resulted in serious consequences for the victims.

“Fortunately both men sustained only minor injuries.

“Police Scotland does not tolerate violence of any kind and we would reassure the public that we are investigating all lines of enquiry in relation to this matter.

“Anyone who saw these teenagers, or knows who they are should contact Police Scotland on 101.

“Alternatively information can be passed to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at
