“A little ray of sunshine”- Hundreds gather to pay tribute at funeral of Harlow Edwards

Hundreds of mourners gathered at St Columba’s RC Church in Dundee as a “service of celebration” was held for two-year-old Harlow Edwards.

Dressed in bright colours, family, friends and those looking to pay their respects attended a mass of the angels for Harlow, who was killed after being struck by a car in Coupar Angus earlier this month.

Family members also wore T-shirts depicting children’s cartoon character Peppa Pig as they made their way in to the church, where they heard Harlow was “a little ray of sunshine” in people’s lives.

Pink and other brightly-coloured flowers were arranged delicately at the church, after the toddler’s coffin was taken inside.

Some of the floral arrangements had miniature Peppa Pig figurines in them and others spelled out Harlow.

The service was conducted by Father Neil Gallagher, and attendees sang hymns I Watch the Sunrise, As I Kneel Before You and How Great Thou Art during the short mass.

Councillor Dennis Melloy, representative for Strathmore, paid tribute to the bravery and dignity displayed by the Edwards family.

He said: “Tuesday morning’s funeral service for wee Harlow Edwards in
St Columba’s Catholic Church in Dundee was a fitting tribute to her — simple and emotional.

“I am sure everyone in the packed church who came to pay their respects to Harlow and her family found it difficult to believe they were at a funeral for a two-year-old child. I know I did.

“I was taken by how brave and dignified Harlow’s parents were as they followed their daughter’s pink coffin out of the church. It is something I will never forget.”

Harlow was struck by a vehicle while walking along the town’s Forfar Road on October 13. The toddler’s 17-year-old sister Dionne and six-year-old brother
Leon were seriously hurt.

Dionne was able to attend the funeral service after being transported to the church from hospital.

The Coupar Angus community has rallied round the Edwards family
following the tragedy. A JustGiving page set up to support the family has raised over £10,000.
