The husband of a Dundee teacher who died suddenly at her home has paid tribute to his “beautiful wife”.
Morven Mackenzie, 44, who taught geography at the city’s Grove Academy, died at her home in Kingskettle, Fife, sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Her husband Donald Mackenzie said she had gone to bed as normal that evening, but never woke up.
Donald, 47, who works for Michelin in Dundee, said: “I just can’t believe it.
“Morven went to bed as normal on Wednesday evening and she didn’t wake up.
“She died suddenly and unexpectedly.”
Paying tribute at the couple’s home today, Donald said that his wife had a passion for teaching people.
He said: “Morven was very interested in the natural world and in other people.
“She read voraciously and she was so good at baking that she could have been a contestant on Bake Off.
“Morven was positive and encouraging about everything and everybody.
“She was one of life’s special people — she was enthusiastic and saw goodness in everything.
“I can’t believe what has happened.”
Donald said Morven had been well before she went to bed and had been healthy right up until the time of her death.
He said that the support that he had received from the community and from friends had been amazing.
Morven was born in Glasgow and began her teaching career in London.
She taught at Newcastle and in Edinburgh, which is where the couple met.
They were married on July 14 2007 and both came to work in Dundee.
The couple have two daughters, six-year-old Lily and Annie, who will be eight on Wednesday.
Morven is also survived by her parents Neil Douglas, a retired sheriff from Paisley, and his wife Morag Douglas. She also has a sister.
Labour’s education spokesman for Dundee City Council Laurie Bidwell said today he was very sorry to hear about the death of Morven.
He said: “She and her family are in my prayers at this time. This must have been such a shock for all of them as well as for her pupils and colleagues at Grove Academy.”
