The owner of an upmarket Dundee hotel believes his latest venture will offer something nowhere else in the city can.

Richie Hawkins, owner of Taypark House Hotel, has revamped a historic stable building, located within hotel grounds, with the intention of creating a wood-fired pizza and barbecue restaurant.

The businessman is adamant the history of the structure should be preserved and feels, should planning permission be granted, it will offer something “unique” to visitors.

Mr Hawkins said: “I’m desperate to reuse this derelict building and turn it into something where locals and other people visiting Dundee can come and experience a 150-year-old stable building.

“I really don’t want to turn it into residential accommodation where it would almost be lost forever.

“It’s got so many original features.

“Dundee has so much happening at the moment, they’re trying to grow the city and almost recreate it.

“There’s a lot of new things happening, but I don’t think we should forget about Dundee’s history.

“It’s great to be able to use this space for that.”

Members of the public can gain access to “The Stables” to see the renovated building by attending the Taypark Christmas Market from Monday to Sunday between 10am and 6pm.

The market will run each day until December 31. A host of local food and drink firms will be present at the event.
