“Nightmare” speed bumps have to go, say City Quay residents

Residents say speed bumps are damaging their cars.
Residents say speed bumps are damaging their cars.

Residents of Dundee’s City Quay development have called on Dundee City Council to change “nightmare” speed bumps they believe are damaging their cars.

Drivers say they have become fed up of constant visits to the garage to repair damage caused by driving over bumps along both South Victoria Dock Road and West Victoria Dock Road.

Home owners claim their repair bills sit in the thousands due to the material and size of the bumps.

Concerns were expressed previously by
various residents at a community gathering aboard HM Unicorn.

SNP councillor Lynne Short, a former resident, said she, too, has suffered damage to her car while driving over the bumps.

A host of tenants have now told The Courier that enough is enough and the bumps must be revisited.

Fahd Ali Asif said: “They’re a nightmare and extremely damaging to the car. Taxi drivers don’t like coming to City Quay because of the bumps. I burst a tyre in a rental car going over one of the bumps. My friends pick me up outside The Apex now because they don’t want to go over them.”

Resident Derrik Lohmann said: “There needs to be something done, the ones we have are not fit for purpose. They are supposed to prevent speeding – they are not supposed to make you have to almost stop or go into the middle of the road to prevent grounding.

“The angle of the sides has played hell with my tracking, and they have cost me thousands in repair bills.

“In my opinion they are also badly installed and poorly positioned right next to junctions in some instances.”

Darren McMillan added: “You can sit opposite The Apex and hear almost every single car that goes by scrape over them. It’s long past time something was done about them as they are a constant nuisance and cause of damage.”

A Dundee City Council spokesman said the administration would look into the complaints.
