‘Oh dear, oh dear’: Chuckle Brothers answer Dundee man’s plea

The Chuckle Brothers.
The Chuckle Brothers.

A 20-year-old Dundee man with autism got the chance to fulfil a lifelong dream when he met The Chuckle Brothers on Friday night.

Gary Falconer, who also suffers from epilepsy, has been fan of the children’s comedy duo since he was just five-years-old.

When he heard Barry and Paul were due to appear in Dundee on Friday he saw the chance to meet his icons.

But when he realised they would be appearing at a nightclub in Dundee University Students’ Association he feared he would miss his chance because he struggles to cope with large crowds and loud music.

But a Facebook appeal by his sister Ashley led to The Chuckle Brothers agreeing to meet Gary, who is on an assisted learning course at Dundee and Angus College, before their appearance at DUSA on Friday night.

Ashley said: “Gary started watching The Chuckle Brothers from when he started schools when he was about five years old.

“During a class at college Gary was asked what his dream was and he wrote ‘To meet The Chuckle Brothers’.

“A support worker then told him the Chuckle Brothers would be attending Dundee University so he may get to meet them.

“He was full of excitement and hadn’t stopped talking about it but then discovered it would be in the students’ union so he would be unable to attend.

“When he got home from college he was in complete and utter meltdown and saying his dreams had been shattered.”

Ashley took to social media asking if there was anyone who could help arrange a meeting.

Ameen Rahman, who does events and marketing at DUSA saw the post and was able to arrange a meeting on Friday night.

Gary thanked Ashley and everyone who had shared her post on Facebook.
