Scottish DJs prepare to take a spin to Dundee

DJs from club nights across Scotland will host all-day parties at a record number of venues for this year’s Dundee Dance Event.

The all-day house music extravaganza will see the likes of Trashdisco from Aberdeen, Freakunique from Aberdeen and Dundee’s own Carnival 56, who are looking forward to their festival in Camperdown Park in August, conjuring up their own form of magic on Sunday, April 30.

In addition, Mashed Up Nights host Bar 15, the Xtra DJs are looking after No.1s, while big parties will also be held by DJs from Movement in Inverness, Rendition from Galashiels and Perth’s Groovement.

Carnival 56 host Mono 2 at The Union for the DDE closing party.

Over 120 local and resident DJs from around Scotland will write the musical menu for a record 25 venues, with outdoor stages and a street food market, for what has now established itself as Dundee’s biggest free day out for dance music devotees, which is estimated to generate £1 million for the local economy.

DDE Organiser Mike McDonald said: “The DJs, venue owners and people attending the DDE have helped the event evolve into something special that everyone wants to be part of and that speaks volumes about their support.

“The geographical reach of the event is spreading each year and DJs from all of over Scotland are once again taking part.

“I’m also excited about the different elements that are helping the event to grow, such as the wider choice of music, the street food market and the outdoor stages.

“Feedback from last year’s event showed that a lot of the venues were capacity by 6pm so another seven venues have been added which will help ease the pressure on the bars.

“It’s the one day of the year that everyone is out and you see people you’ve not seen for a long time. It brings everyone together and is one big celebration of the music we all love. I can’t wait until the city’s bars are buzzing once more on DDE day”.

There will be a dedicated hip hop, R&B and grime venue at The Dungeon in Princes Street and also a Northern Soul party at Fat Sam’s, hosted by the A92 Vespa Club Roadshow DJs.

A full list of the venues taking part this year is available at the DDE Facebook page and tickets for the closing party, priced £8, are now on sale through Eventbrite.
