Police have charged a man in connection with the deaths of a man and woman in Dundee.

The 42-year-old was arrested in relation to the incident on Sunday and is expected to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday.

Police Scotland said a 32 year-old male and a 43 year-old female are dead.

The pair died on Sunday morning and the emergency services retained a heavy presence in the area throughout the day.

Detective Inspector Brian Geddes, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “Thank you to the members of the public who have assisted us with the investigation – your support is appreciated.”

A section of the street was cordoned off on Sunday and forensic officers could be seen combing the area.

Neighbours spoke of their shock during the high level investigation, describing the area as “quiet” and “normally peaceful”.

Speaking earlier, Detective Chief Inspector Keith Hardie, from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, said: “There will be a strong police presence in the area while our investigation continues and I would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to stress that this has been a contained and isolated incident.

“There has been no threat to the wider public at any stage.”

The police are now asking anybody with information to make contact.

“I would urge anyone with information to please contact police,” DCI Hardie said.

“Likewise anyone who saw or heard anything in the area that could be of assistance.

“Please contact Police as soon as possible on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.”

One resident who lives close to the scene said the disturbance had happened around 6am on Sunday, adding: “By 8am there were lots of police officers in the area.”
