Broughty Ferry lifeboat was scrambled on Sunday afternoon in response to a “police incident” in Dundee.
The boat was launched just after 2pm.
HM Coastguard referred all enquiries as to the nature of the incident to Police Scotland who declined to give any details of what was described as “an ongoing incident”.
He was unable to say if details of the incident will be made public later.
It is understood the incident is unrelated to the search for a teenager missing after falling from cliffs at Arbroath.
