Police sealed off the entry to a Broughty Ferry home on Monday – and refused to tell the homeowners why.
The occupants of 16 Castleroy Road woke on Monday to discover a police car parked outside their house and the pavement sealed off with police tape.
Police in Dundee have said no crime was committed after a Broughty Ferry house was sealed off by officers for several hours.
Officers were stationed on Castleroy Road, a quiet residential street, since the early hours of Monday.
But officers refused to tell the owners what they were investigating.
One relative of the house’s occupants was seen entering the property in tears because she feared there had been an accident.
Police Scotland’s Tayside Division later released a statement saying no crime had been committed in the street.
Tape was used to cordon off the entrance to 16 Castleroy Road after police arrived on the scene around 4am on Monday.
A small silver tent was erected within the cordon and a police car was parked outside the house for several hours.
Police removed the tape and tent and left the scene around 12 noon.
There was nothing under the tent.
The male owner of the house, who refused to give his name, said his police had not told them what they are investigating.
“We woke up to see the police tape. I asked what was happening and they said they couldn’t say,” he said.
“When I said will I read about in the papers, they said ‘probably not’.”
Neighbours were equally puzzled by miniature non-crime scene.
One neighbour said: “I’ve no idea what’s going on but they’ve been there from at least 7am when I took the dogs out.”
Another neighbour said there had been no loud noises or the sound of sirens overnight.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said: “Police Scotland carried out enquiries into an incident in Castleroy Road, Dundee and it has been established that no crime has been committed”.
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said they had not been called to the scene.
They refused to say whether anyone had been injured or give any more details about the exact nature of the incident.
