Ice hockey fans “buzzing” for Dundee Stars’ biggest ever game

Joy for Dundee Stars as they secure their place in the play-off finals weekend.

Over 150 Dundee Stars fans are set to travel to Nottingham at the weekend to watch the team  in the Elite League play-off finals following one of the best results in the club’s history.

Over 10,000 ice hockey fans from all over the UK are expected to descend on Nottingham for the “buzz-filled” weekend and a ticket-buying frenzy after the 6-1 quarter-final win against Braehead Clan means the Stars’ allocation is already sold out.

A spokesman for the Dundee Stars said: “It’s one of the biggest results in the club’s history – this is the first time we’ve reached the final four.

“The other teams are massive organisations, so it could be said that we’re punching above our weight, but we have had a really good season and we are really excited for the game in Nottingham.

“This is absolutely massive for a city of our size. A lot of hockey fans never expected Dundee to get to the final four, but we are proving them wrong.”

Stars will face Cardiff in the first semi-final at 1pm on Saturday, before Fife Flyers’ conquerors Belfast Giants take on Sheffield.

If Stars can upset the odds again to beat the Elite League winners, they will line up for the grand final on Sunday at 4pm.

Marc Jackson, of Dundee Stars Travel Club, said: “Roughly, off the top of my head, we have about 150 fans going down, and there are more trying to book tickets.

“I’m led to believe that the stands at the Stars’ end are now full.

“The Nottingham weekend is a great experience and the fans are buzzing – for many of them, it will be their first time at the play-offs.”
