Dundee Sheriff Court
Dundee Sheriff Court

A man appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday afternoon in connection with an alleged ram-raid robbery in Monifieth.

Brian Tynan, 30, appeared in private and on petition in connection with a number of thefts – including a car – and motoring offences carried out on May 3 and 4.

Tynan, of Foundry Lane, made no plea and no declaration to ten charges made against him and was granted bail while the case was continued for further examination.

It is alleged that Tynan stole a handbag from a house in Carnoustie on May 4, took a set of car keys from said handbag and drove away the car without the owners or lawful consent.

He is also accused of stealing a handbag from a second property in Carnoustie and stealing another separate set of car keys.

It is further alleged that Tynan broke into a Co-Op supermarket on Lawers Drive, Panmurefield, Broughty Ferry on May 4 and stole a quantity of cigarettes and alcohol.

Tynan has also been charged with attempting to break in to Size clothes shop on Dundee’s High Street with the intent to steal, after breaking the shop door windows with a stone or similar item.

He has also been charged with being in a third Carnoustie property without lawful authority to be there. with the inference that he intended to steal from that property.

Tynan is also accused of driving two separate motor vehicles on May 3 and 4 without a licence or car insurance, after his licence had been revoked by the Secretary of State in January 2016.

A huge police presence was witnessed at the Co-Op following the alleged incident on May 4, in the usually sleepy Monifieth suburb.

Forensic teams were spotted and a police cordon was erected around the store, and the incident was only discovered once employees arrived for work that day.
