White dust left over from a road resurfacing project is still plaguing residents of a Dundee street — three weeks after the original work was carried out.
Those living on a stretch of Perth Road near to Harris Academy had previously complained of plumes of dust being kicked up by passing cars after road maintenance work was carried out at the end of June.
The white dust still covers sections of the road and pavement, with the council’s Road Maintenance Partnership conceding that the residue was “in excess of what was expected and planned”.
Workers are trying to get rid of the dust by regularly dampening down and sweeping the area, but West End councillor Fraser Macpherson is calling for the situation to be “urgently rectified”.
He said: “Nearly three weeks on and the situation is still totally unsatisfactory. The pavement in particular is still covered in a fine dust.

“How this can be considered an acceptable standard of work is completely beyond me.
“Lessons really do need to be learned from this and I have asked the Roads Maintenance Partnership to take immediate steps to improve the Perth Road situation by dealing with any remaining dust, particularly on the pavement.
“This has been an extremely poor situation and quality of work and it needs urgently rectified.”
Ramanee Bengough, who lives on the stretch of road affected, said there has been little improvement in the time since the work was completed.
“I’m just back from holiday and I was shocked to see that the same dust is still everywhere,” she said.
“It has been three weeks now and it doesn’t look much better than it was at the start.
“Those living on the north side of the road must be getting the dust inside their homes and everything.
“To be honest, I don’t even really know why it has been done in the first place.
“It’s surely not worth this much bother.”
The council’s Roads Maintenance Partnership manager said steps are being taken to bring the dust under control.
He said: “I can confirm the road was dampened down and swept six times last week (twice on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday).
“With regard to the footways, the council’s environment department swept the footways last week and we will arrange for this to be repeated again this week.”
