The crash investigation gets under way.

A motorcyclist has died following a collision with a minibus outside Piperdam near Dundee.

Police advised motorists to avoid the A923 Coupar Angus Road at Muirhead following the collision with a minibus on Wednesday.

The incident happened shortly before 12.30pm and the road was still closed at 5.30pm.

The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances and a trauma team to the scene.

Wreckage of the bike was left lying on the road at the turn-off to Fowlis, three-quarters of a mile from the turn-off to Piperdam Golf and Leisure resort.

Dents were visible on the rear of the minibus.

Police later confirmed the motorcyclist died.

More than two miles of road was closed to traffic while investigations into the accident took place.

Officers at the scene said inquiries were at an early stage.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 12.22pm to attend a road traffic collision on the A923 in Angus.

“We dispatched two ambulances and the trauma team to the scene.”

Eighteen-year-old Billy Haggart died following a one-vehicle accident on the A923 just last month.

The car he was travelling in was involved in the collision near Tullybaccart, just a short distance from the scene of Wednesday’s accident.

Four other people in the car suffered serious injuries when the vehicle careered off the road.

The teenager’s death on the Dundee to Coupar Angus Road led to calls for safety measures to be installed on the road.

Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser said councils need to be “proactive” to reduce the number of accidents on the road.

He suggested that Perth and Kinross Council should install “accident blackspot” signs on the road.
