A vile Dundee sex offender has been jailed for 10 years after raping and sexually abusing two women, one of whom was disabled, over a two-decade period.

Steven Thomson, 56, of Buttar’s Road, was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow after being found guilty by a jury of raping two woman at separate addresses.

A source close to the women, who knew Thomson but was not herself a victim, said he was a “sinister” and “evil” man.

She said: “I have known Thomson my whole life.

“He had a very strange nature, there has always been something strange about him.

“He would just stay at home and smoke cannabis all day, every day.

“Thomson was very controlling over his victims. He was a very evil and sinister man. A control freak.

“They are both overwhelmed that he has gone to prison for the crimes he committed.

“One of his victims told me ‘we can now sleep at night knowing he can’t hurt us’.”

Thomson was sentenced in Glasgow, having been found guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh in August of four charges against him.

He was found guilty of indecently assaulting the disabled woman between 1999 and 2010 at flats in Dundee during which he exposed himself to the victim and molested her. He was also convicted of raping her on various occasions between December 2010 and 2012.

He was also found guilty of assaulting the woman and attempting to rape her on a single occasion in 2006.

During the trial the court was shown footage of an interview between Thomson’s disabled victim and a female police officer.

The woman told the officer, who was accompanied by an appropriate adult, that Thomson threatened to kill her if she told anyone what he had done.

Thomson was also found guilty of raping the second woman before the attacks on the disabled woman began.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Judge Lady Carmichael and placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
