Dundee University is calling on graduates, students and staff to nominate the next head of the institution.
The university appointing committee is currently searching for a new chancellor, its most senior position.
Lord Naren Patel retired from the role earlier this year, following more than a decade as chancellor.
As the university’s ceremonial head, his successor will rule over academic ceremonies such as graduations and promote the institution at public events.
The selection process for finding a replacement is already under way, however the university has asked all students, graduates and staff members to submit suggestions for the next chancellor.
Lord Naren’s successor will join an illustrious list which includes Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, the 16th Earl of Dalhousie Simon Ramsay and Professor Sir James Black.
The committee, comprising members from the university court and senate, has stipulated a series of attributes which candidates must possess in order to be named chancellor.
They include the potential to be a champion, supporter and ambassador for the university; the opportunity and ability to act as an advocate on behalf of the university in furthering its strategic aims, objectives and wider interests; and a willingness to stand as an inspirational role model to staff, students, and graduates alike, and to possess a demonstrable empathy and affinity for students.
The successful candidate will also have demonstrated a singular commitment to their chosen field, career or area of expertise, as well as an affinity to the life and work of the university or some other strong connection to it or to Dundee or the region.
He or she should embody the values of the university, valuing people, excellence, working together, integrity and making a difference, including in particular a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion; show a record of selfless and voluntary service to the community or their country; and be willing and able to commit the time to preside at all academic ceremonies and be prepared to attend other university events.
Anyone wishing to make a nomination for the role should email chancellor-appointment@dundee.ac.uk no later than Friday October 6, along with a short paragraph stating why they believe their candidate should be picked.
