The death of a man found on an English beach by Dundee High School pupils during a field trip is not being treated as suspicious.

Higher geography students from the school stumbled upon the grim discovery of a dead man on Selwicks Bay beach in North Yorkshire while carrying out coastal surveys on Monday morning.

The children alerted their teachers, who in turn called the police at around 11am.

Humberside Police have said the man’s death is being treated as unexplained, but there appear to be no suspicious circumstances.

Police will carry out a post mortem on the deceased man and pupils will not have to give any further statements to investigating officers, according to the school.

Officers also debunked rumours that the man’s body was bound with rope when it was found.

As revealed in The Courier, the group of teenagers were conducting erosion surveys on the picturesque shores of Selwick Bay when they found the deceased man.
