A Dundee police chief has issued a description of a man officers are hunting following a “horrific” rape in the city.
An 18-year-old woman was attacked on Thursday at 8.15pm on the city’s West Henderson’s Wynd.
Police cordoned off streets around the area, which has a large student population, as they investigated the attack.
The suspect is described as being 5ft 7in, in his late thirties. He was wearing a dark hooded top and Adidas jogging bottoms.
The man is white, has a Scottish accent, is of medium to heavy build and has short hair.
Detective chief inspector Graham Binnie described the attack as a “horrific crime” and asked witnesses who may have any information to come forward.
He said: “Firstly, I would like to say that this is an extremely distressing incident for the 18-year-old female victim and she is being supported by family and friends, along with specialist officers.
“This is a horrific crime but I would like to stress that incidents of this nature are very rare and our priority is to identify and find the person responsible.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area between 8pm and 8.30pm, either on foot or in a vehicle, to come forward because you might have vital information that can assist our inquiry.
“The young woman was wearing a distinctive yellow jacket at the time of the crime and we are hoping that someone might remember seeing her.
“I would like to reassure the local community that we are doing all we can to find the person responsible.”
