Construction of a highly-anticipated £80 million museum on the Dundee waterfront will be completed “next week”.
On Thursday morning V&A Dundee bosses announced visitors would be welcomed into the building as of September 15 this year.
Speaking following the announcement, V&A Dundee director Philip Long said the main construction contract for the eye-catching structure on the banks of the River Tay would be completed next week.
However there is still months of work ahead to fit the interiors of the development and set up exhibits ahead of the grand opening.
Mr Long said: “The building for V&A Dundee is nearing completion. The main construction contract completes at the end of next week, alongside that we have a complex plan in place which sets out everything that needs to be done to get V&A Dundee ready.
“That is of course not just a building it is the exhibitions and displays, it is all of the services that need to be in place to make sure that when we open on September 15 is the most fantastic experience from Dundee, from across the region, from across Scotland and from around the world.”
Head of exhibitions at the forthcoming museum Sophie McKinley said the aim of the museum is to share the “spectacular V&A shows that you see in London” with people in Dundee.
She added the Ocean Liners: Speed and Style opening exhibit – which has been four years in the making – will be an opportunity to “experience the excitement of what design can be”.
