Dundee joiner found with indecent images of kids told police he preferred ‘granny porn’

Dundee Sheriff Court.
Dundee Sheriff Court.

A joiner arrested over allegations he shared child abuse pics with online paedophiles told police “had a preference for granny porn”.

Gary Brown was today facing jail after he admitted downloading, possessing and distributing indecent images of children – possessing an “extreme porn” video of a woman engaged in sexual acts with a dog.

When he was quizzed by police Brown told cops he watched porn daily – but his preference was “for home made and granny porn” and that he had “no sexual interest in children”.

A sheriff asked: “I assume that [granny porn] means pornography featuring more mature ladies rather than pornography that grandmothers would be interested in?”

Dundee Sheriff Court was told police went to Brown’s door in Dundee after being tipped off that someone at the address was in possession of child abuse images.

Fiscal depute Charmaine Gilmartin said: “The accused’s property was attended by police on October 5 last year. He was later detained and taken to police HQ in Dundee.

“When interviewed he stated he watched porn daily and his preference was for home made and granny porn. He said he did use chat rooms and social media sites on his iPhone.

“He said he didn’t have any sexual interest in children. He said he hadn’t specifically searched for these images but had been sent them from contacts on the Kik messenger app.

“He stated he had shared images on Kik. He confirmed indecent images of children would be found on his phone.

“When they were recovered he called them disgusting and reiterated he doesn’t have any sexual interest in children.

“In total 13 images were found – three accessible and 12 not accessible. One extreme porn video was also found.”

Brown, 40, of Aberlady Crescent, Dundee, pleaded guilty on indictment to downloading, possessing and distributing indecent images of children between May and October last year.

He further admitted possessing extreme pornography between December 2016 and October 2017.

Defence solicitor Kevin Hampton said he would give a full plea in mitigation at a later sentencing date.

Sheriff Alastair Brown deferred sentence until next month and released Brown on bail meantime.
