Punks and rockers from across Europe will get together at a special charity event this weekend to raise money and resources for refugees.

Conroy’s Basement on Meadowside will play host to a number of Scottish and Italian bands on Saturday as part of a donation effort for the Dundee Refugee Support group.

Donations of money, emergency supplies, medical aid and warm clothing can be exchanged for a night of music and activism. The goods will then be sent by van to Italy, where thousands of displaced people are currently living.

The evening is being put together by Make That A Take records which has recently held charity events for the local foodbank as well as fundraisers for groups including Addaction.

Co-founder Derrick Johnston said: “Activism, politics and philosophy have always been at the heart of what we do as an organisation.

“We have organised a number of benefit shows now and helping those less fortunate is something we have always wanted to do.

“Our shows are community-based and the community we have here is very receptive.

The record label has rules attendees must abide by at their shows, including no racist or homophobic language and respect all members of staff.

“There are massive social problems in Dundee, Scotland and the world right now and we feel shows like this can bring the change we want to see.”

Ruby Kelly, of Dundee Refugee Support, said: “The work is invaluable, not only because it supplies us with the resources and donations that are so desperately needed by people in refugee camps in Europe but also it brings different groups and people together to celebrate and work together for things that they care about.”

The concert will start at 7.30pm on Saturday, with tickets starting at £5, with e-tickets available here.
