Man jailed after visiting mum in Dundee to check on her health

Dundee Sheriff Court.

A Dundee man has been jailed for breaching an anti-social behaviour order by visiting his mother to check on her health after hearing she had taken a “tumble” in her house.

Alcoholic Raymond Norrie, 51, had been barred from entering the street where his mother lives but breached the order when he was told she had fallen the previous day.

Norrie, of the Salvation Army Hostel on Ward Road, admitted the offence at Dundee Sheriff Court when he appeared from custody before Sheriff John Rafferty.

He pled guilty to being in the house on Fintry Mains on Sunday contrary to the terms of the anti-social behaviour order, which had been imposed on him last year.

Depute fiscal Kirsten Letford told the court police received an anonymous telephone call stating Norrie had been seen leaving a taxi and entering the house.

Police attended and found him in the property.

Solicitor Theo Findlay said his client had a long-standing alcohol problem and had breached court orders previously.

“It’s his mother’s address,” Mr Findlay said.

“He simply goes up to the house, there are no other complaints about anything.

“He heard that his mother had taken a tumble and went up to the house to make sure that she was OK.”

Norrie was jailed for six months.
