It might be set to sizzle this weekend but you can be guaranteed a dose of cool with the return of the Almost Blue festival.
Dubbed “Dundee’s live music walkabout”, the event will see more than 30 city centre pubs transformed to host more than 100 performances from musicians brought in from across the country.
Local favourites such as Lefty and Friends, The Funkin’ Idiots, Nick Shane and the Rising Sons and Dave Webster will take to the stage at venues including the Bank Bar, Duke’s Corner and Klozet.
The festival, which started from humble beginnings in 2012, taking place in only two venues, has spiralled in popularity.
This year young acts from the Gardyne Youth Music initiative will take part in the event, opening proceedings at Church on the Sunday afternoon.
For the first time this year, Tom’s Tent – a large marquis – will be erected behind the Spex Pistols glasses shop on Johnston’s Lane.
Organiser Alan Wilson said there would be something for everyone across all 31 venues.
“We are really looking forward to this weekend’s festival, the sun is forecast to be shining on all three days and there will be a party right through the town,” he said.
“Great bands and musicians from across Dundee and Scotland will play to packed pubs and we are expecting around 10-12,000 attendees for what will hopefully be the largest festival yet.
“All of the acts will be great, but among the highlights will be The Average White Band’s favourite support act Lights Out By Nine, who will play Tom’s Tent on Saturday night.
“Cookies bar in the Hilltown will play host to special guest Van Tastik, a travelling blues supremo who has toured Europe and the world.
“This year will hopefully be our biggest ever event, we hope everyone has a great time watching some great bands enjoying the great weather.”
