Woman robbed in Dundee graveyard

A woman has been robbed while walking in a Dundee graveyard — just 24 hours after another woman was sexually assaulted in a nearby park.

The woman, who is in her thirties, was robbed of her handbag in the Eastern Cemetery on Arbroath Road at around 11.30pm on Friday night.

The incident occurred just half a mile from Baxter Park, where a woman was sexually assaulted on Thursday night between 10.30pm and 11pm.

Police are yet to make any arrests in connection with the sex attack but say there is no indication that the two crimes are linked.

The robber is described as being in his late teens or early twenties, around 5’11, of chubby build with a round face and short dark hair.

Detective Inspector Paul Riley said: “Our enquiries are at an early stage and we are asking for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to get in touch with us.

“We have officers on scene while our enquiries are carried out and I appreciate that this may cause concern in the community.

“We are following a positive line of enquiry and there is nothing to suggest this is connected to the incident in Baxter Park. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to an officer.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 5703 of 29 June or if you wish to remain anonymous you can speak to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

It is not yet clear whether a weapon was used in the robbery with the cemetery likely to be closed for the rest of the day to allow the police to carry out their investigations.
