Korky the Cat, Desperate Dan and Dennis the Menace are getting ready for a 24-hour race to raise money for cancer research.
The Dundee Relay for Life is under starting orders at Morgan Rugby Club on Alloway Place on Saturday.
This year’s theme, chosen by the committee, is DC Thomson characters and will see participants race in the non-stop, 24-hour event dressed as their favourite family characters.
Eighteen teams of between six and 15 people have spent the last year fundraising for cancer research, the culmination of which will be totalled at the weekend.
Organisers hope to raise £32,000 for cancer research and people still have the chance to donate towards their efforts by joining in the festivities this weekend.
Volunteer chairman for Dundee Relay for Life, Kathryn Torode, said fundraisers had worked raising money for Cancer Research UK for the past 12 years.
She said: “Our teams have been working hard at events all year to raise as much money as possible for the relay.
“A track is being constructed at Morgan Rugby Club, who have kindly allowed us to use their fields this year.
“Usually we have our relay at Caird Park, but it is currently a construction site for the new sport centre. One member of each team will be on the track at all times during the 24-hour race.
“There will be a number of themed laps, including our participants dressing as DC Thomson characters. We are hoping for a mix, some Korky the Cats, Dennis, Oor Wullie and maybe even a Bananaman.
“The race will be started by our VIP survivors, who will complete the first lap.
“At 9pm, there will be a candle lit vigil commemorating all those who have lost their lives to cancer, which we hope people will come and join in with.”
As well as the race itself, music and entertainment will be on display during the day and the relay racers will be piped on to the track by the Mains of Fintry pipe band.
Last year more than 300 people took part in Dundee’s Relay For Life, raising a total of £30,356.
