A Fintry man is facing a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of a historic child sex offence.

Alan Hardie stood trial accused of committing attacks on children in Dundee during the 1990s.

The 60-year-old was indicted on three charges at the High Court in Edinburgh.

A jury found him guilty of one charge, that between January 1991 and August 1993, at an address in Downfield, he carried out lewd, libidinous and indecent practices towards a child by performing a sex act in front of the youngster.

Hardie, of Fintryside, also induced the child to perform a sex act.

He further forced the child to watch a pornographic film and sexually assaulted them.

He was cleared of two other charges alleging he used lewd, libidinous and indecent practices towards a second child between 1991 and 1999.

After being found guilty, sentence was deferred on Hardie until October 26.

He was remanded in custody immediately following, having been granted bail during the course of the trial.

Sinead Daly, of the Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (WRASAC) in Dundee, said she “hoped the sentence goes on to reflect the severity of the crimes committed”.

She said: “It is a very difficult thing for survivors to report offences of this nature.

“It’s not an easy thing for survivors to be able to go through the whole court process that follows once they have reported a crime.

“Through advocacy we lend guidance, advice and support to those who are dealing with this and those who have decided to report what happened.”
