VIDEO: Locals take to the ice at Dundee pond thanks to freezing weekend weather

Temperatures were so cold at the weekend that sports fans were able to take to the ice at a popular Dundee beauty spot.

Stobsmuir Ponds was the scene of plenty winter fun as locals donned their skating boots and grabbed their ice hockey sticks to get in some practice on Saturday.

Young and old, some wearing Dundee Stars shirts, skated using improvised goals on the solid ice, having cleared it of snow.

Elsewhere across Courier country, sledgers were out in force to take advantage of the abundance of snow across the area.

People in Dundee, Fife, and across Perth and Kinross made the most of the conditions to have some winter fun.

Scotland saw a weekend colder than Ny-Alesund which, at 750 miles from the North Pole, is the most northerly village on the planet.

Situated on Norway’s Arctic island of Svalbard – famous for its polar bears – it is experiencing -2C nights.

Although wet and windy weather this week will provide milder temperatures, a “Valentine’s Freeze” looms.
