HBO series Succession to film in Dundee next week

Brian Cox will be filming Succession in Dundee next week.
Brian Cox will be filming Succession in Dundee next week.

Filming on the critically-acclaimed series Succession is expected to take place in Dundee next week.

The HBO show stars Brian Cox as the head of the Roy family, who own one of the world’s largest media companies.

The first series of Succession was screened in the UK on Sky Atlantic last year and the second is expected to air later this year.

It explored how Cox’s character’s children on the show vied to take control of the company after he falls ill and how he reasserts control over the company and his family after his recovery.

Succession won the Bafta for Best International Show.

Cox’s character in the show, Logan Roy, is, like the actor himself, originally from Dundee.

It is understood filming will take place next week at a number of locations in Dundee, including the V&A.

Mr Cox revealed earlier this year the drama, written by Peep Show creator Jesse Armstrong, would be filming in his hometown.

He originally believed his character was from Quebec and only learned towards the end of filming on the first series that the writers had decided to make him Scottish instead.

Speaking earlier this year he said he hopes the episode “does justice” to Dundee.

Hundreds of people auditioned to be extras in Succession when casting agents GMB Casting held open auditions in Dundee in April.

Producers were looking to recruit around 300 people to appear in the programme.

It is understood those cast as extras will earn up to £150 a day. Filming is expected to last for five days.

Cox also features in Good Omens, which started streaming on Amazon Prime on Friday.

The adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s cult novel stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen.

Although Cox does not appear on screen, he features as the voice of Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The star-packed series also features Frances McDormand, Jon Hamm and Benedict Cumberbatch.
