Intrepid stargazers will be able to experience how humans might one day get to the Red Planet as a show comes to Dundee Science Centre.

Mars Odyssey will launch on July 1, and the 20-minute interactive show will give visitors the chance to experience the surface of Mars — all from the comfort of Dundee.

Through a combination flames, eruptions and more, people will get to see how Mars is different to Earth, what its surface looks like and the challenges involved in getting humans to the neighbouring planet.

Paul Strachan, exhibition and community engagement manager at Dundee Science Centre, said: “We’re going to take visitors on an imaginary trip to Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun.

“But before we go, we need to make sure we’re organised with everything we need.

“We’ll explain the sort of things they’d need to take and what the challenges might be when they get there, from the extreme cold and lack of oxygen to the lack of power and food, using various experiments to explain the science in the most visual and fun way.”

Mars Odyssey will be at the centre until September 1.
