Stephen Crabbe, who worked for DC Thomson for around 46 years, has died after a battle with cancer.

Mr Crabbe, who worked on phototypesetting in Dundee for all of his working life, died on at the age of 71 after an 11-month fight with a brain tumour.

Born in the former Fernbrae Hospital, Perth Road on September 21, 1947, Stephen went to Downfield Primary, before attending Morgan Academy.

After school he followed in the footsteps of his father and started working with DC Thomson — the beginning of a 46-year career that lasted until his retirement in 2011.

The Dundee FC fan lived most of his adult life in Stobswell but had moved back to Downfield area, where he grew up, in the last three years.

Aside from his work, Mr Crabbe enjoyed the great outdoors.

He and son Steven used to go out on regular fishing trips. His son now works on a fishing farm in Loch Earn.

Stephen was also a keen mountaineer and had climbed every Munro in Scotland. He was in the process of climbing each Munro for a second time, but had to give up as his knees weakened with age.

Mr Crabbe is survived by brother Ronald, daughter Jayne — who now lives in Australia — son Steven and his seven grandchildren.

A funeral will be held on July 17 at Dundee Crematorium, with a reception taking place afterwards at Dens Park.
