The hit American TV show Succession, which recently filmed part of its upcoming second season in Dundee, has been nominated for an Emmy.

The HBO show, which stars Dundee-born actor Brian Cox, is in the running to win the outstanding drama series category at the prestigious American television awards.

It is up against Killing Eve, Game of Thrones, Better Call Saul and others vying for the gong.

Brian Cox plays Logan Roy, the head of a family who own one of the world’s largest media companies, in the show.

The makers decided that the Scottish character should come from Dundee, just like the actor, and that some filming for the new season would take place in the £80 million V&A.

An open casting call for hundreds of extras was made by Scottish casting agents GBM Casting earlier this year in preparation.

The filming took place last month, with parts of the museum closed to the public to make room for the nighttime shoot — which lasted for four nights.

A V&A Dundee spokeswoman described it as a “fitting welcome” that the filming took place in the museum.

It is not the only major television production to take place in Dundee this year, with a new crime show created by author Val McDermid also being filmed in the city.

That production saw the crew, including actor Martin Compston, on the streets of Dundee, including City Square. There was also a helicopter spotted flying around the city as it captured aerial images of Dundee and the Tay.

The 71st Emmy Awards takes place in the Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles on September 22.

The second season of Succession, which is expected to feature scenes filmed in the V&A Dundee, airs in the UK on Sky Atlantic on August 12.

It is broadcast on HBO in America, the channel behind some of the biggest drama series in recent decades, such as Game of Thrones, The Sopranos and The Wire.
