Tayside Euromillions winner Gillian Bayford denies attacks on domestic abuse campaigning ex-boyfriend

Lottery multi-millionaire Gillian Bayford is to face trial, accused of repeatedly attacking her domestic abuse campaigner ex-boyfriend.

She is said to have battered Gavin Innes, 46, while they were dating in 2017.

At Dundee Sheriff Court today Bayford, 47, who was not personally present, tendered a not guilty plea through her solicitor to a single charge of domestic assault.

It alleges that on three occasions between August 1st 2017 and October 31st 2017, Bayford – who is now remarried and also using the surname Deans – at an address in Adam Drive, Dundee, and at another in the village of Auchterhouse, Angus, she assaulted her ex-partner Innes and repeatedly struck and punched him on the head and neck to his injury.

The charge adds the claim that “it will be proved in terms of Section 1 of the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm (Scotland) Act 2016 that the aforesaid offence was aggravated by involving abuse of your partner or ex-partner”.

Bayford, of Broughty Ferry, Dundee, was ordered to attend court for summary trial on September 5th (2019).

Sheriff George Way also ordained her to attend a procedural hearing later this month, on August 27.

Bayford and her former husband Adrian shared a record-breaking EuroMillions win of over £148m in August 2012, before separating 15 months later after nine years of marriage.

The former hospital cleaner, who had been living with Adrian in Haverhill, Suffolk, returned to her native Scotland with the couple’s two children.

She launched a property business based in Carnoustie, Angus, spent millions buying homes to rent out, and bought a cafe, “Sugar and Spice”, in Arbroath.

The eatery shut in 2016, putting 21 staff out of work, after reporting a £129,000 loss.

Innes and Bayford – who were once at school together – are reported to have started their relationship after he approached her to help with a charity he was starting for male victims of domestic abuse.

After splitting from Gavin, Bayford married Brian Deans, 38, near St Andrews, in August last year, six years to the day after landing her lottery jackpot.
