Former Dundee police station will house beauty salon

A former Dundee police station will go from putting on handcuffs to offering up hand treatments after ambitious plans for a beauty salon were granted.

The former Police Scotland Brook Street office building in Broughty Ferry will be given a makeover for the next few months before it houses Evermore Beauty.

The property was available because the force moved to the other end of the street early last year.

The business owner, Laura Kennedy, will convert the ground level of the two-floor property into a nail salon and waiting area.

The former changing areas for officers on the first floor will also receive treatment.

That area will be turned into a series of rooms for facials, massages and eye procedures.

The building – which sits next to the Valet Service and The Cake Guru – has been vacant since Police Scotland moved out.

The extensive work means the move may not be completed until the end of the year or early 2020.

The new site will be significantly bigger than the current home of the business.

Ms Kennedy, who opened the salon in 2015, said: “Evermore will be moving into 165-167 Brook Street, Broughty Ferry (the old police station).

“However due to the extensive work and complete makeover this will take a few months.

“In the meantime, due to circumstances out with my control I will be relocating premises whilst the work is being carried out. I’m excited.

“There’s going to be big changes. I’m still looking at exactly what needs to be done but there’s so much potential — it’s a lovely building.

“I’ve been in a building on Brown Street with just one room for about four years so this will be so much better.

“I think it’s just what the area needs. There’s so many issues with mental health right now and I feel that this can help.”

From October 1, Evermore will be based in 100-year-old Ingleside House, at 310 Broughty Ferry Road.

Evermore is currently situated in The White House on The Ferry’s Brown St.

Police Scotland had recommended leaving the Brook Street building, along with 10 other police sites in Tayside and Fife, following a three-month consultation period.
