Shocked shoppers watched as pupils from a Dundee high school lobbed plastic bottles outside a city supermarket.
A gang of between 20 and 30 pupils from Craigie High School were “causing chaos” outside Asda Milton of Craigie on Tuesday afternoon just days into the start of the new school term.
One onlooker, who asked not to be named, said: “They were throwing plastic bottles around and causing a real nuisance.
“We spoke to the shop and they said there was nothing we could do about it.
“But eventually someone will throw a glass bottle and someone will get hit.”
The woman added she then phoned Craigie High School to complain about the pupils’ behaviour.
She said: “I was told they speak about anti-social behaviour during assemblies but they can’t do much more than that.
“The school really needs to have somebody out there monitoring pupils because then they might behave.
“They clearly don’t respect the staff at Asda.”
A Dundee City Council spokesperson said pupils would be spoken to again about the need to behave while out of school grounds.
She said: “The school works hard on local relationships and there are a number of strong connections between pupils, residents and businesses.
“The vast majority of pupils at Craigie High support the school’s Good Neighbour policy.
“Young people are asked to behave responsibly and not to do anything that puts themselves, or anyone else, at risk when they are both at school and outside in the community
“Staff monitor the situation around school and appropriate action is taken where needed.
“Following the concern that has been expressed, these messages will be re-emphasised to pupils.”
Last year, pupils from Morgan Academy in Stobswell were banned from a nearby supermarket after allegedly covering the manager’s company car in food.
Pupils were refused entry to the Lidl shop on Dura Street with school staff used to stop them entering the store.
It is understood a small group of pupils have been causing trouble at the store recently.
