Vandals have been branded “heartless and sick” after wrecking Christmas decorations in a Fife town for a second time in a week.
The thugs targeted the display in Dalgety Bay, smashing several handmade wooden decorations including reindeer and snowmen.
Dozens of others similar decorations were also uprooted and strewn across grass banking in what the organisers of the display was a repeated attempt to ruin a good natured and welcomed community display.
The attack is thought to have taken place during the evening of December 22 at Harbour Drive and comes just seven days after a reward was issued after thieves stole several signs and decorations from the same display.
Peter Collins, from the Blooming Lovely group behind a number of projects to brighten up public spaces in the community, said they would now have to consider whether it was worth creating the display in future because of the repeated incidents.
“We have to consider whether it’s actually worth doing it next year if this is the way it ends up, it’s totally demoralising,” said Mr Collins.
“The police were informed of the theft and we launched an appeal to see if we could find those responsible but that has so far come to nothing.
“We are now appealing once again to any members of the public who may have seen those responsible to contact the police.
“The vast majority of people like what we have done and we’ve had many messages of support but it always seems there’s some idiots out there ready to spoil things.
“This is nothing more than a heartless and sick attempt to ruin anything good in this community and we need to put a stop to it.”
The latest damage has been widely condemned by residents with many locals voicing their disgust on social media.
Dalgety Bay resident and Conservative councillor for the area, Dave Dempsey, said there can be “no justification” for what has been done and has urged anyone who know anything about the incident to report it to the police.
He added: “This is just mindless and a completely negative attempt to spoil things from yobos getting a temporary kick out of destroying anything good in their community.
“The vast majority of folk will see this for what it is – a stupid and pointless act.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed that officers were continuing to investigate the incident and have urged anyone who may have seen those responsible to contact them or call 101.
