Road closed as man suffers serious injuries in crash between car and van near Cupar

A 68-year-old man has been seriously hurt in a road accident between Cupar and Dairsie.

He was injured when an Arnold Clark hire van and a car collided on the A91 at 11.50am on Friday.

Police have closed the A91.

The man was rushed to Ninewells Hospital, in Dundee, with injuries said by police to be serious but not life-threatening.

An investigation into the smash has been launched, with the road closed while the scene is examined.

Firefighters rushed to the collision with police and paramedics and used cutting equipment to release a casualty from one of the vehicles.

Motorists were advised to find an alternative route until the road reopens.

The black car involved in the incident was left a wreck, its roof removed, following the crash.

The van was seen with its front hanging on top of a nearby dyke.

A police spokesman said: “Emergency services are in attendance following a serious road crash on the A91 between Cupar and Dairsie between a van and a car.

“A 68-year-old man has been taken to Ninewells Hospital with serious injuries.

“The road is closed and diversions are in place.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it had two crews in attendance.
