A Fife business has sent most of its employees home as a precaution against the coronavirus.

Roof window firm Velux has asked any of the 120 employees at its Glenrothes base who can work from home to do so for the foreseeable future.

Bosses have also advised against business travel unless it is absolutely critical.

Managing director Mick Schou Rasmussen said: “With the constantly evolving situation surrounding Covid-19, Velux has taken the precautionary measure to ask our 120 employees, based in our Glenrothes head office, who can work from home to do so for the foreseeable future.

“We have also advised against business non-critical travel.

“Our main priorities are the health and safety of our most vulnerable employees and to honour our societal duty to help contain the Covid-19 virus from spreading further.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation and our business is working to safeguard operations and customer service.”

The move follows the decisions by two care home companies to close to visitors in a bid to protect vulnerable residents.

The Fife Business Awards, Fife Food Festival and Kirkcaldy’s Festival of Ideas have all been postponed.
