Coronavirus: ‘Shop local’ Cupar butcher delivery service launched as new premises open in Scone

The coronavirus might be forcing many businesses to close their doors.

But a Fife butcher is determined to press ahead with the opening of his new shop in Perthshire next week.

Minick, the Fife-based butcher, has expanded their operation over the last few years to meet the growing ‘shop local’ demand – and their new store in Perth Road, Scone is no exception.

Owner, Stuart Minick, said: “We run a successful ship, but the biggest reason we have been able to expand our business is our customers. They demand the highest quality – and that’s what we are giving them.”

In 2019, Stuart relocated his meat preparation business from their original site in Ladybank – where they were “bursting at the seams” – to north Fife, taking on the  Jamesfield site near Newburgh.

Stuart added: “That has been a game changer for the business. It has given us greater capacity to help support and manage more production to meet the increasing demand from our loyal customers.”

The Scone shop will be the company’s ninth store. In a decade, they’ve grown from St Andrews to open shops in Ladybank, Cupar, Newport, Anstruther, Jamesfield, Kirkcaldy, Crieff – and now Scone.

Stuart said: “Relocating food preparation business to the north of Fife is making it easier for us to service our shops across the north and east of Fife – and is now enabling us to expand into Perthshire. We are extremely grateful to our customers who are driving the demand.”

In light of Covid-19, Minick’s shop in Cupar has teamed up with other food companies to offer a delivery service to households within a five- mile radius of the town.

Driven by the town’s Digital Improvement District, CuparNow, the initiative is designed to support those who either can’t get to the shops or are amongst the most vulnerable and require a home delivery service to help in their protection and care.
