Police in Fife are hunting a motorist who fled the scene after colliding with a female cyclist, leaving her needing hospital treatment for multiple injuries.

The incident happened just after 3pm on Saturday at the roundabout on Harbour Drive in Dalgety Bay.

Eyewitnesses say the driver of a silver vehicle traveling along Harbour Drive in the direction of Dalgety Bay Sports Centre, struck the back wheel of the cyclist who was on the roundabout heading towards Harbour Way, causing her to fall to the ground.

The driver, described as an elderly male, is then reported to have got out of the vehicle for a few seconds before getting back into his car and driving over an adjacent pavement before fleeing the scene.

A number of people in the area at the time came to the aid of the cyclist who suffered various injuries in the collision.

She was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy where she was treated and later released.

Sergeant Scott Maxwell, of Dalgety Bay Police Station, said: “On Saturday, 25 April, 2020 officers received report of a cyclist being struck by a car on Harbour Drive at the roundabout with Chandlers Rise, Dalgety Bay.

“The incident happened around 3.15pm when a 22-year-old woman on a bicycle was struck by a silver Ford Focus which failed to stop.

“The woman was taken to Victoria Hospital where she was treated for leg, arm and facial injuries.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2606 of April 25.
