All seven of Fife’s affiliated Highland games have fallen foul to Covid-19, with the St Andrews event the last to be cancelled.
St Andrews Highland Games, which were to be held on July 26, have been called off by the organising committee due to the uncertainty caused by the pandemic.
The region’s six other events in the Scottish Highland Games Association calendar – Markinch, Cupar, Ceres, Thornton, Burntisland and Inverkeithing – have already been scrapped for 2020.
During a video conferencing meeting the St Andrews committee what is said was the difficult decision that the annual event could not go ahead.
Secretary Ian Grieve posted on the event’s website: “The health, safety and wellbeing of all our guests, competitors, and officials has to be our number one priority, so it is only right for us to cancel this year.
“We know this is disappointing news but we thank you wholeheartedly for your support and look forward to welcoming you all back next year, when our games will be held on Sunday July, 25.”
Across Scotland 46 of the 60 SHGA member games have been called off and it is expected others will follow shortly.
