A new degree course has been launched in Fife to help people start businesses in the creative industries.

Fife College’s two-year undergraduate course will result in a BA (Hons) qualification in creative enterprise.

It has been developed in partnership with Queen Margaret University and will teach students practical skills and expertise for a freelance career.

People who have completed an HND in creative industries subjects including photography, interior design, computer animation and jewellery will be eligible to apply.

Modules at the college’s Glenrothes campus will include finance, marketing, project management and social enterprise.

From day one students will start developing their business and will produce a business plan rather than a dissertation for their honours project.

Dougi McMillan, the college’s director of creative industries, said: “We are delighted to work in partnership with Queen Margaret University to offer this innovative new degree.

“I’m sure the programme will be the springboard to many exciting creative ventures in the future.”

Dr David Stevenson, head of media, communication and performing arts at Queen Margaret University, said: “This new degree offers HND students a unique route to a degree level qualification while simultaneously developing their future as a creative freelancer.

“Fife College is the ideal hub in which students from a range of creative disciplines can inspire each other to turn their creative ideas into a career.”
