Plans to redevelop former offices and gym into homes in Leven

Fife House, the headquarters of Fife Council.

Quale Homes is planning to redevelop old social work offices and a gym into housing on Station Road in Leven.

The planning application submitted to Fife Council proposes to demolish the existing two-storey building to make way for 24 affordable two and three-storey apartments.

Quale Homes has already gained approval for a previous application to transform the former council offices, which were last in use in 2013, into flats.

However, this most recent application seeks to demolish both Dow’s Gymnasium and the former social work offices to rebuild the new flats due to the current building being “unfit” and “too dilapidated” for further work.

According to Quale Homes’ supporting statement: “A new-build option is preferred given the new-build scheme can be designed to fully comply with the Housing Association design guidance.

“The new-build option will also extend the lifespan of the development to the benefit of the area and the community.”

The proposed site lies to the north of the town centre.

The apartments proposed are all two-bedroom four-person units with design variations applying throughout the site to suit the positioning and aspects from the properties.

All the housing on the site will be 100% affordable and the development will be operated and managed by Kingdom Housing Association.
